Ashihara International Karate Organisation

The Ashihara International Karate Organisation is a karate organisation lead and founded by Dave Jonkers Shihan and Semmy Schilt Shihan.

The new approach to every branch of Ashihara Karate International sport owes its present appearance to the development which is gone through in the past and so every sports wears his own history with it.
You can say that every time or every culture has the sport forms that came with her.
Judo, Karate and Jiu Jitsu have a rich history, while the movies and writing/MMA and Kickboxing (so no Muay Thai) created a reaction to the long-traditional martial arts.
There is now a wide variety of martial arts and prove the business to evolve quickly in here also.

The development of Karate makes no exception. The traditional Karate styles, as Shotokan, Kyokushin karate, WadoRyu GoJuRyu find now the less traditional styles in addition to itself as Ensshin, Seido, Ashihara, etc.
My approach to the Karate is, after a period of indoctrination in my early days "Karate is a form of sport". It is an incorrect inference to think that Karate would be something to do with religion on the grounds that it used to be in a part of a temple was performed. The reason for this will probably be located in the fact that this is the only place suitable and available.

This does not mean that the way in which Karate was practised and is, almost religiously. That is supported by sticking to traditions and systems, which, while undoubtedly will have played a role in the development of Karate and then certainly in Japan.

As a teacher I still have interest in the history, methods and systems of Karate, but where tradition and cultural aspects constitute an obstacle for the development of Karate, I consider that the sports development priority and not let itself be guided by hierarchical systems. This is not to say that for the Oriental culture is also true. On the other hand, it will be in this culture right counterproductive.

The Ashihara karate is a fairly new form and is characterized by innovation of the old system. That the Kyokushin Karate a basis for this style is incorrect. The only association is the fact that Hideyuki Ashihara a Kyokushin Karateka was, but in no way is this reflected in the style that he presented in the 1970s.
It is precisely the aforementioned hierarchy took care of resistors in the countries outside of Japan. The Ashihara management was out on collecting dollars and gave no backup to affiliated Dojos outside Japan.
This was the reason that time for David Cook and me to be able to start in 1988 with private European organisation, which grew to a global organization. On the Greek island of Thasos was with a number of the new International Karate instructors Ashihara system born with its own identity.
Now, more than 24 years on, has the International Ashihara Karate has had its ups and downs, successes and debacles experienced and is now again at the beginning of a new episode, in which Semmy Schilt and has started giving again the Ashihara Karate International body, with the help of an older and new generation Ashihara karateka.

Semmy and I have 22 years a band which has resulted in successes at world level. This relationship has resulted in a wide experience in contest area. The working out tactics, techniques, analysis of opponents, build up to events, mental aspects, nutrition, etc. In addition to the successes of Sem and also upcoming worldclass fighter Kiria, there were more examples of our approach that paid off and continue to do so, also at world level.

Since years, we have decided to translate these experiences and approaches to the development of the International Ashihara Karate.
In coming period we will make a start with a renewed purpose and a simplification of many technical approaches, which we will put the accent on effectiveness in both training technical as well as competition-oriented approach.
The intent is to use this kind of evolution gradually the new setup prosper using the participants and instructors.

Dave Jonkers Shihan.
